Orange Mushroom Pimple

Hypomyces lactifluorum

This mushroom is a sac fungi. It grows in the low lands on my island, near the maple and oak trees. This mushroom is under the Hypocreaceae which makes this mushroom have a brightly color to it with tiny, pimple like perithecia embedded in the flesh.

This mushroom is actually a parasite that grows on the mushroom. The mushroom starts out as a white smooth color then becomes orange as it matures.

The organisms that eat it are the oak timberworms. They grow under the bark of the oak trees or at the foot of the tree. There is a lot of fungus growth on my island and so there are 600 patches of these mushrooms on it.
